Date, exact time and place. SIA computes the sky for that minute with its own engine — to a third of an arc-second — and every reading that follows carries the verse it rests on.
An unknown time is usually entered as 12:00 — the lagna will then be approximate, and anything that depends on it should be read with that in mind.
This does not change the chart — the birth moment and place fix that entirely. It is used only where the śāstra itself reads differently, such as the strīlakṣaṇa section.

What is in a janam kundli
A janam kundli (janam kundali, birth chart) is the sidereal sky at the moment and place of your birth: the sign rising in the east — the lagna — and the longitude of each graha, laid into twelve bhāvas counted from that lagna. From it SIA derives the birth nakṣatra and pañcāṅga, the Vimśottarī daśā to the prāṇa level, the sixteen divisional charts and the aṣṭakavarga.
The positions come from SIA’s own planetary engine — the Sūryasiddhānta’s steps, refined by SIA’s own computation to a third of an arc-second — on the Lahiri ayanāṃśa every standard pañcāṅga shares. The doctrine page explains each piece with the verses that define it.

Questions
Do I need my exact birth time?
Ideally to the minute — the lagna changes sign about every two hours and a bhāva boundary can pass in minutes. If the time is unknown, cast with your best estimate; SIA’s Lagna Shodhan narrows it from what you know about your life.
Which ayanāṃśa does SIA use?
Lahiri (Citrā-pakṣa) — the zero point every standard pañcāṅga shares — on positions computed by SIA’s own engine for the birth minute.
Can I get the kundli in Hindi?
Yes. Chart labels, daśā tables, readings and the PDF are all bilingual, with full Devanagari for rāśis, nakṣatras and grahas.
Can I download my kundli as a PDF?
The full kundali document — a hundred-page classical analysis with 800+ citations — is made on a plan (Parivār holds 3 a month) and downloads as a PDF; without a plan it can be bought once for ₹599.
