D7 — saptāṃśa
The saptāṃśa (D7) divides every sign into 7 equal parts of 4°17′ and gives each part a sign of its own, so a graha's D7 position is a sign in a second chart. Parāśara names it among the sixteen vargas, gives the rule for assigning its signs, and in the viveka chapter says it is consulted for children and grandchildren. SIA computes it for every kundli, with whole-sign houses from the D7 lagna, and reads it alongside the rāśi chart for that matter.
