Navagraha

The nine grahas

Parāśara opens the graha-svarūpa chapter by giving each graha its office in the kāla-puruṣa — the Sun is the soul, the Moon the mind, Mars the vigour, Mercury the speech, Jupiter knowledge and happiness, Venus potency, Saturn sorrow — and then describes each one's form, caste, element, deity, taste, season and dignities. Each page below quotes those verses and adds Phaladīpikā's kārakatva list and the graha's Vimśottarī span.

Rāhu and Ketu are described in the same chapter: smoke-coloured, blue-bodied, forest-dwelling, and — as the daśā chapter states — holders of 18 and 7 years of the 120-year cycle.
