Śani — Saturn

कृशदीर्घतनुः सौरिः पिङ्गदृष्ट्यनिलात्मकः। स्थूलदन्तोऽलसो पङ्गु खररोमकचो द्विज।।१८।।

RenderingŚani is lean and tall, tawny-eyed, of vāta constitution, large-toothed, indolent, lame, with coarse hair.

राजानौ भानुहिमगू नेता ज्ञेयो धरात्मजः। बुधो राजकुमारश्च सचिवौ गुरुभार्गवौ।।३।।

RenderingAmong the grahas Sūrya and Candra are kings, Maṅgala the commander, Budha the prince, Guru and Śukra the ministers, Śani the servant, and Rāhu and Ketu the army.

समौ सिताकीं शशिजश्च शत्रुर्मित्राणि शेषाः पृथिवीसुतस्य। शत्रुः शशी सूर्यसितौ च मित्रे समापरे स्युःशशिनन्दनस्य।।४५।।

RenderingOf Maṅgala, Śukra and Śani are neutral, Budha an enemy, the rest friends. Of Budha, Candra is an enemy, Sūrya and Śukra friends, the rest neutral. Of Guru, Budha and Śukra are enemies, Śani neutral, the rest friends. Of Śukra, Budha and Śani are friends, Maṅgala and Guru neutral, the rest enemies. Of Śani, Guru is neutral, Budha and Śukra friends, the rest enemies.

आयुष्यं मरणं भयं पतिततां दुःखावमानामयान् दारिद्र्यं भृतकापवादकलुषाण्याशौचनिन्द्यापदः । स्थैर्यं नीचजनाश्रयं च महिषं तन्द्रीमृणं चायसं दासत्वं कृषिसाधनं रविसुतात्कारागृहं बन्धनम् ॥७॥

TranslationAs regards one's longevity, death, fear, degradation, misery, humiliation, sickness, poverty, labourer, reproach, sin, impurity, censure, misfortune, constancy, resorting to low people, buffalo, drowsiness, debts, iron, servitude, agricultural implements, jail and captivity, one ought to guess through Saturn.

पङ्गुर्निम्नविलोचनः कृशतनुर्दीर्घः सिरालोऽलसः कृष्णाङ्गः पवनात्मकोऽतिपिशुनः स्नाय्वात्मको निर्घृणः । मूर्खः स्थूलनखद्विजः परुषरोमाङ्गोऽशुचिस्तामसो रौद्रः क्रोधपरो जरापरिणतः कृष्णाम्बरो भास्करिः ॥१४॥

TranslationSaturn is dark in form, lame, and has wind in his composition. He has got deep eyes, and a lean and tall body full of arteries and veins. He is idle, and is exceedingly calumniating. He governs the muscle in the body. He is cruel, and has no pity. He is dull-headed. He has got large nails, teeth, stiff hair and limbs. He is dirty and is of sinful disposition. He is fierce and is a personification of anger. He is ripe with old age and wears a black garment.
