Candra — Moon

बहु वातकफः प्राज्ञश्चन्द्रो वृत्ततनुर्द्विज। शुभदृक् मधुवाक्यश्च चञ्चलो मदनातुरः।।१३।।

RenderingCandra is of vāta-kapha constitution, wise, round-bodied, with beautiful eyes and sweet speech, restless and amorous.

देवेज्यो ज्ञानसुखदो भृगुवीर्यप्रदायकः। विचार्यतामिदं सर्वं छायासूनुश्च दुःखदः।।२।।

RenderingSūrya is the soul of the Kāla-puruṣa, Candra the mind, Maṅgala the vigour, Budha the speech; Guru gives knowledge and happiness, Śukra potency, and the son of Chāyā, Śani, sorrow.

राजानौ भानुहिमगू नेता ज्ञेयो धरात्मजः। बुधो राजकुमारश्च सचिवौ गुरुभार्गवौ।।३।।

RenderingAmong the grahas Sūrya and Candra are kings, Maṅgala the commander, Budha the prince, Guru and Śukra the ministers, Śani the servant, and Rāhu and Ketu the army.

रवेः समो ज्ञः सितसूर्यपुत्रावरी परे ये सुहृदो भवन्ति। चन्द्रस्य नारी रविचन्द्रपुत्रौ स्मृतास्तु शेषग्रहाः समाः।।४४।।

Gloss (English)The Sun is conjoined with Mercury, Venus and Saturn are in an enemy's sign, and the remaining Moon, Mars, and Jupiter are friends.

मातुः स्वस्ति मनःप्रसादमुदधिस्नानं सितं चामरं छत्रं सुव्यजनं फलानि मृदुलं पुष्पाणि सस्यं कृषिम् । कीर्तिं मौक्तिककांस्यरौप्यमधुरक्षीरादिवस्त्राम्बुगोयोषाप्तिं सुखभोजनं तनुसुखं रूपं वदेच्चन्द्रतः ॥२॥

TranslationIt is from the Moon that one ought to determine the welfare of the mother, mental tranquillity, sea-bath, white chowrie, umbrella, good fan, fruits, tenderness, flowers, corn, agriculture, fame, acquisition of pearls, bell-metal, silver, sweet substances, milk, etc., cloth, water, cows, women, good meals, bodily health and beauty.

स्थूलो युवा च स्थविरः कृशः सितः कान्तेक्षणश्चासितसूक्ष्ममूर्धजः । रक्तैकसारो मृदुवाक् सितांशुको गौरः शशी वातकफात्मको मृदुः ॥९॥

TranslationThe Moon has a huge body, and is young as well as old; he is lean and white; has fine lovely eyes, black and thin hair. He governs blood. He is soft in speech, wears a white garment and is beautiful in complexion. He has wind and phlegm in his composition and is mild in temperament.
