Mangal Dosha (Maṅgala-doṣa) — what the texts state
The doctrine
Maṅgala-doṣa (kuja-doṣa, 'manglik') is Mars standing in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house counted from the lagna, from the Moon or from Venus. In the melāpaka tradition it is read as an application of Parāśara's principle on the seventh house: a malefic joining or aspecting the house of the spouse harms the marriage. Present in one chart alone it is the caution; present in both it is held to balance out. It is a caution calling for care, never a prohibition.
SIA states this plainly because the corpus does: the nine texts SIA carries give the rule about a malefic on the marriage houses and leave the doṣa unnamed. The label is the asker's; the doctrine SIA cites is the kalatra-hāni verse and the melāpaka record that applies it. When you ask SIA about it, the answer says exactly this before it says anything else.

कलत्रनाथे रिपुनीचसंस्थे मूढोऽथवा पापनिरीक्षिते वा । कलत्रभे पापयुते च दृष्टे कलत्रहानिं प्रवदन्ति सन्तः ।।१४४।।
Gloss (English)If the 7th lord is in an enemy's sign or in its own sign or is combust, and is aspected by or conjoined with malefics, and the 7th house is afflicted or is aspected by malefics, then there is loss to the wife.
