Āśleṣā — Ashlesha

आर्द्राश्लेषानुराधाश्च मघाश्चाथ घनिष्ठिकाः । उत्तराषाढसंज्ञश्च सर्वजिद्रोहिणी तथा ।।२।।

मृत्युः स्याद्दिनमृत्युरुग्विषघटीकालेऽथ तिष्येऽम्बुभे ताताम्बासुतमातुलान्पदवशात्त्वाष्ट्रे च हन्यात्तथा । मूलर्क्षे पितृमातृवंशविलयं तस्यान्त्यपादे श्रियं सार्पे व्यस्तमिदं फलं न शुभसम्बन्धं विलग्नं यदि ॥८॥

TranslationIf a birth occurs in any of the evil Yogas दिनमृत्यु (Dinamrityu), दिनरोग (Dinaroga) or विषघटीकाल (Vishaghatikala), the child will die very soon. If there be a birth when the Moon is in the asterisms पुष्य (Pushya), पूर्वाषाढा (Purvashadha), and चित्रा (Chitra), the death of the father, the mother, the child or the maternal uncle respectively should be predicted according as the Moon is stationed in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th quarter of any of these stars at the time. If a birth occurs when the Moon is in मूला (Moola) and if the Lagna should also have no connection with any of the benefic planets either by occupation or by aspect, the destruction respectively of the father, the mother or of the family itself should be expected according as the Moon is in the 1st, 2nd or the 3rd quarter. But if the birth be when the Moon is in the 4th quarter of Moola (मूला), there will be prosperity and wealth. In the case of Aslesha (आश्लेषा), the result will be reverse.

Doctrine recordGaṇa (6 guṇas) — each nakṣatra belongs to the deva, manuṣya or rākṣasa gaṇa (temperament class). The same gaṇa earns 6; deva with manuṣya 5–6; deva with rākṣasa 1; manuṣya with rākṣasa 0. A mismatch here (gaṇa-doṣa) signals a clash of basic temperament, softened when the Moon-sign lords are friends.

Doctrine recordYoni (4 guṇas) — each nakṣatra carries an animal nature (aśva, gaja, meṣa, sarpa, śvāna, mārjāra, mūṣaka, go, mahiṣa, vyāghra, mṛga, vānara, nakula, siṃha). The same yoni earns 4; friendly yonis 3; neutral 2; unfriendly 1; the sworn-enemy pairs (horse–buffalo, elephant–lion, sheep–monkey, serpent–mongoose, dog–hare/deer, cat–rat, cow–tiger) earn 0. It measures instinctive, physical compatibility.

Doctrine recordNāḍī (8 guṇas) — the heaviest kūṭa. The 27 nakṣatras cycle through the three nāḍīs (ādi, madhya, antya), the constitutional current. DIFFERENT nāḍīs earn the full 8; the SAME nāḍī earns 0 and is nāḍī-doṣa, the gravest melāpaka objection (held to bear on progeny and health). The doṣa is classically waived when the two Moons share one rāśi with different nakṣatras, or one nakṣatra with different pādas.
