Meṣa — Aries

पित्तानिलस्त्रिधा त्वैक्यं श्लैष्मिकाश्च क्रियादयः। रक्तवर्णो बृहद्गात्रश्चतुष्पाद्रात्रिविक्रमी।।६।।

RenderingTheir constitutions are pitta, vāta, the three combined, and kapha, in turn. Meṣa is red, large-bodied, four-footed and strong by night.

पूर्ववासी नृपज्ञातिः शैलचारी रजोगुणी। पृष्ठोदयी पावकी च मेषराशिः कुजाधिपः।।७।।

RenderingMeṣa dwells in the east, is of the kṣatriya varṇa, roams the hills, is rajasic, rises by its back, is a fire sign, and its lord is Maṅgala.

शीर्षाननौ तथा बाहू हत्क्रोडकटिवस्तयः। गुह्योरुजानुयुग्मे वै युगले जङ्घके तथा।।४।।

RenderingCounted from the lagna, the twelve rāśis are in order the head, face, the two arms, heart, belly, waist, lower abdomen, private parts, thighs, the two knees, the shanks —

चरणौ द्वौ तथा लग्नात् ज्ञेयाः शीर्षादयः क्रमात्। चरस्थिरद्विस्वभावाः क्रूराक्रूरौ नरस्त्रियौ।।५।।

Rendering— and the two feet of the Kāla-puruṣa. From Meṣa onward the rāśis are in turn movable, fixed and dual; cruel and gentle; male and female.

वृत्तेक्षणो दुर्बलजानुरुग्रो भीरुर्जले स्याल्लघुभुक् सुकामी । संचारशीलश्चपलोऽनृतोक्तिर्व्रणाङ्किताङ्गः क्रियभे प्रजातः ॥१॥

TranslationThe person at whose birth the sign Mesha is the Lagna will have round eyes, will be weak-kneed, fierce, afraid of water, will eat sparingly, will long for women, will always be on his legs, will be fickle, will speak falsehoods and will have bruised limbs.
